This strategic research report from Forward Concepts provides insights into the global market for smart wireless devices, including cellphones, tablets, LTE modems (including tablets and IoT) and subscribers for those devices.

This unique report provides you with 305 pages of specific business intelligence including many forecasts through 2020 and expert commentary on which to base your company's business decisions.

OEM device shares, ranked by revenue and units, are included for LTE Smartphones, 3G Smartphones, Tablets, and Non-Smart handsets for the top 30-40 suppliers by region. The report also shows the growth rate from 2014 to 2015 in Smartphones, Tablets and handsets for each supplier in revenue and units. The market shares of the leading suppliers shipping to each of the global regions is provided in units.

Subscriber forecasts cover all cellular standards, including 2G, 3G and 4G. The 2G standards include GSM and CDMA1x; 3G CDMA1X EVDO, HSPA or HSPA+; 4G includes TDD-LTE, FDD-LTE, and smartphone and smart device deployment with 3G standards.

In addition to the smart devices covered in detail, we believe that this is the most in-depth demographic study available of global subscribers, operators and the smart devices deployed. The understanding of cellular subscriber unit growth and air interface standards usage by each country is essential in predicting the device shipments for each global region.

The report also covers fixed-broadband subscribers versus households by country for better predicting 4G-modem demand in each region. Included is the 4G subscribers confirmed by operator and their respective launch date and type: Cat 3, Cat 4 or carrier aggregation LTE A (Cat 6) status.

Each region contains a five-year forecast for what we call smart devices, which include Smartphones, cellular-connected Tablets and Wi-Fi Tablets, Feature, Mid-range and Budget mobile phones and their modem categories. The modem category breakout includes: USB, Mobile Hotspot MiFi routers and LTE-Wi-Fi home routers, both 3G and 4G. The forecasts are across the global regions and are presented showing units, ASP and Revenue.

The population penetration analysis of the smart devices is based on historical information from 2009, which tracks the installed base of smart device users as a percentage of population. This coupled with a retirement rate per device results in the five-year smart device forecast, namely Smartphone, Tablets and modem devices.

It should be noted that smart device predictions based on SIM subscriber connection data without a knowledge of the non-smart mobile phones in the region (feature, mid-range and budget) generally leads to overstating Smartphone annual shipments. The retirement rates vary broadly from region to region based upon age, device type and income demographics, as provided in the report.

In this report, the reader will learn:

  • Which countries have the largest population of 3G and 4G Smartphone users?
  • Who are the major smartphone suppliers in each of the nine regions covered?
  • What are the fastest-growth-rate countries and their smartphone penetration levels?
  • Penetration levels of the smartphone users, tablet users and modem users within each of the regions and their expected growth through 2020.
  • Who are the baseband processor suppliers for smartphones, tablets and modems?
  • Positioning of the baseband processor supplier technology moving into 2016.
  • Percentage and growth rates of single, dual-, quad-, hex- or octa-core processors sold into the smartphone market.
  • Which OEM smartphone suppliers are growing most rapidly and which are failing?
  • Percentages of Premium, Mid-Range and Entry-level smartphones forecast over the five years.
  • Market shares of chip suppliers from 2014-2015 in both units and revenue and their positioning for 2016.
  • How the internal local smart phone suppliers are impacting the foreign smartphone suppliers.
  • ASPs of smartphones in each of the geographic regions.
